For L-Acoustics, I designed universal headphones tailored to replicate the signature sound of their world-renowned line array speakers. The project involved creating a 3D-printed custom housing that optimized frequency response, ensuring a seamless transition from stage sound to personal listening. Given the challenges of the pandemic, I led a fully remote design process, relying on visual storytellingthrough sketches and renders to align cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and leadership.

The cover of the case study I provided to L-Acoustics as part of the pitch for the Contour XO, a piece I designed, prototyped, and led to manufacture. Cover features renders of the final product along with the sound signature below.

The first concept sketches of the Contour XO, the idea was to combine the most recognizeable aspects of both JH Audio and L-Acoustics.

We knew we wanted to stick with the classic “pick” design that JH Audio is known for while also incorporating some elements of the L-Acoustic line array speakers.

Since we would be manufacturing both universal and custom versions of these headphones we had to make sure the design could apply to both versions.

board featuring multiple design, color, and material concepts leading up to the final design choice which included the signature L-Acoustics pantone, mesh speaker pattern, and gold plated logos found on their line array speakers.

Close up of the 3D printed manufacturing process I used to produce the internal chassis that the balanced armature drives plugged into inside of the IEM shell.

Shown here is the install stage where the CNC cut shells are installed with the 3D printed chassis, ensuring every single pair sounds exactly the same.

The final stage of the manufacturing process involved a hypoallergenic clear coat since the earpiece would be inserted into the ear canal.

Finally, the earpieces were sent to QC, packaged, and sent to L-Acoustics to be shipped to customers.

The units were sent to audio engineers all over the world for review, this is one of the beauty shots used in the marketing campaign.
